CSR POLICY

We at Foodcase International (FC) appreciate the value of a sustainable and resource efficient food system. We recognize our role in contributing positively to a responsible food production, consumption and communication chain. With a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy in place we aim to embolden this role and contribute towards it.

The CSR policy of Foodcase applies to the company, its employees and subsidiaries. Where applicable, it is also extended towards our suppliers, partners and customers.

The CSR policy is based on the triple bottom line and covers the three aspects of sustainability – environmental, social and financial. Within these three realms lies the scope of the policy. It extends from ensuring an ethical supply chain to giving back to the local community with outreach programs.

Due to the comprehensive and multi-faceted nature  of the policy it is divided into three areas:

ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

Continuous improvement, pragmatism and impact value form the basis of our approach towards environmental activities. Based on these values, FC has identified the following domains within its scope to be the most impactful:

Packaging

The packaging of our food products is essential to ensure its safety and integrity. The packaging should be well-thought out with a clear purpose for all components with regard to shelf life and waste reduction. Our priority lies with optimizing our primary and secondary packaging. We aim to:

  • Consider the entire life cycle of the packaging material, especially their production emissions and disposal methods/end of use stage

  • Support innovative sustainable materials wherever technically and economically feasible

  • Utilize where possible garden compostable packaging materials with proven biodegradability within a defined timeline

  • Assist in closing the packaging loop by following a cradle-to-cradle approach, especially with the use of recycled plastics packaging

  • Avoid single-use plastics as much as possible and find appropriate alternatives

  • Collaborate with customers to understand their challenges with disposal methods and improve upon them

  • Optimize the use of inks, labels and other associated materials to be compatible with the packaging usedEnsure effective and veracious downstream communication.

Distribution

Logistics are an integral part of FC’s core business. FC strives to ensure an efficient and effective distribution network starting from optimum palletizing to safe delivery, keeping in mind its environmental and social impact (such as carbon emissions, air pollution, noise levels, accident prone, etc). We aim to:

  • Select transport carriers with a green policy/vision in place

  • Give preference to modes of transportation based on their common (or assessed) emission levels and location accessibility: waterways > rail > road > air

Regulatory Compliance

FC complies with all relevant local, national and global sustainability legislature set forth by governments, trade bodies,  and regulatory authorities. We seek to monitor regulatory developments, communicate across the supply chain and implement the legal necessities. We also support industry standards, codes of practice and voluntary initiatives aimed at promoting sustainability and awareness.

Procurement

FC procures its products through primary processors, traders or through its partner manufacturers. We try to follow a uniform sustainability acceptance policy for all our suppliers. We aim to:

  • Work with (future) suppliers with an existing green policy

  • Identify ingredients with a potential to contribute towards avoidingglobal warming, and use (or encourage use of) sustainable alternatives

  • Encourage current suppliers to develop and share their sustainability ideas and measures with us

  • Promote transparency in the chain, with the ‘one step back, one step further’ concept

  • Support suppliers in reaching symbiotic sustainability goals

Research & Development

To ensure a future proof business, FC invests in identifying and applying green solutions within its market scope. FC follows new sustainable developments in the field of airline catering, B2B catering, food packaging, food delivery kits, etc. We scrutinize innovative technologies and products designed for sustainable use and disposal. We assume a nuanced approach to such innovations with the aim of remaining objective, and ultimately being able to make logical decisions for ourselves as well as our stakeholders.
